Kosciusko Community Hospital's Emergency Care Center meets state of the art emergency care standards and accommodates increasing patient volumes. Averaging over 21,000 visits annually, the facility is capable of handling high volumes and continues to implement technological updates to meet the community's needs. The KCH Emergency Care Center is the county's only 24-hour medical care unit.
Every 34 seconds, someone dies from cardiovascular disease. Nationally, heart diseases and stroke kill more than 910,000 Americans annually. With prompt treatment during the critical early stages of heart attack, many of those lives can be saved. "Five million Americans annually are admitted to hospitals with chest pain, generally through the Emergency Department," said Dr. David Hartman, KCH Chest Pain Center Medical Director. "Working in conjunction with our local EMS teams throughout the area, we provide prompt and professional care in a dedicated location with trained staff and readily available diagnostic capabilities."
"If a patient having a heart attack is treated within 30 minutes, damage to the heart is minimized and mortality is decreased," stated Lynne Eberle, KCH Chest Pain Center Coordinator. "One of the goals of a Chest Pain Center is to significantly reduce the time from initial symptoms to treatment. Another is to provide continuous monitoring of patients to help determine if they are experiencing a coronary event."
The ECC at Kosciusko Community Hospital features an enlarged waiting area with private registration, two triage rooms, three trauma/critical care rooms, two OB/GYN rooms, two pediatric exam rooms, one ear nose and throat exam room, two orthopedic/minor procedure rooms, one isolation room, five general exam rooms and two observation rooms. All patient care rooms have cardiac monitor capability. A radiology room and film processing is located in the ECC for immediate access by the medical team.
The KCH medical staff and emergency care team strive to provide quality, efficient care that all emergency care patients require.
